Aquatic By Design is a Long Island koi farm built around display pools you can walk through, with water kept clear by native willow moss and planted bogs instead of a wall of plastic filters.

What we're building
Premium koi
Kohaku, Showa, Sanke and more, quarantined on site and sold after you've seen them swim, not from a photo.
The sanctuary
Display pools designed as a place to slow down: stone, moss, water, and some very large fish.
Farm escargot
Gros Gris snails raised in a sealed snail house and fed greens grown from the pools' own filter.
The system
Water one way, nutrients the other
Fish waste becomes plant food. Our pools push water through a settlement chamber, then across runs of native willow moss (Fontinalis antipyretica) and a planted gravel bog, where bacteria and plants strip out ammonia and nitrate before it falls back into the pool. What the filter grows gets trimmed, washed, and fed to our snails, which live in their own sealed building.
